Thinking about getting lash extensions but not sure what to expect? Here's everything you need to know before your first appointment in Nyon.
What exactly are lash extensions?
Lash extensions are ultra-fine synthetic fibres glued one by one (or in fans) onto your natural lashes. Unlike strip lashes or a lash lift, extensions add length, volume, and a tailored curl, all without mascara, for 3 to 4 weeks.
The result? Naturally intense eyes from the moment you wake up.
How long does a full set take?
At Alexanna, a full set takes 60 to 80 minutes. That's faster than average (many salons take 2 hours or more), and it's not because corners are cut: it's the result of 10+ years of practice and more than 10,000 sets applied since 2015. Technical mastery means precision and efficiency at the same time.
You lie comfortably with your eyes closed. Many clients fall asleep.
How to prepare
No mascara on the day. Residue stops the adhesive from bonding properly.
Avoid oil-based products around the eyes in the 24 hours before your appointment.
Arrive with clean eyes. If you're wearing makeup, plan to remove it before the set.
Remove contact lenses if you wear them; you'll be more comfortable with your eyes closed for an hour.
Skip the coffee right before if you're sensitive to caffeine: it makes eyelids flutter.
What to expect during the appointment
Personal consultation. Every set starts with a conversation: the look you want, your daily routine, your eye shape.
Comfortable setup. You lie down, protective patches go under the eyes.
Lash-by-lash application. Each extension is isolated and bonded to an individual natural lash. No pain, you feel nothing.
Final check. Symmetry control, a gentle brush, and the reveal.
The first days: aftercare
The first 48 hours are crucial for retention:
No water on the lashes for 24 hours. The adhesive needs time to fully cure.
Don't rub your eyes. Not with fingers, not with a towel.
Sleep on your back if you can, or use a silk pillowcase.
Avoid oil-based products around the eyes.
No sauna, steam room or pool for 48 hours.
Brush gently every morning with the spoolie provided.
After that, maintenance is simple: daily gentle cleansing and a quick morning brush.
